Pokhara — The Lake City Below the Annapurnas
Pokhara sits at the foot of the Annapurna range, and on a clear winter morning the fishtail peak of Machhapuchhre stands reflected in Phewa Lake exactly as the postcards promise. It is the gentlest stop in Nepal - a rowboat out to the island shrine of Tal Barahi, sunrise over the Himalayas from Sarangkot, the plunge of Davis Falls into the Gupteshwor Mahadev cave below, and painted boats lined along the lakeside all day.
Most travellers reach it through the Sonauli border and pair it with Kathmandu on a five or six day Nepal circuit, and Pokhara is where the pace finally drops. Beyond the temples there is paragliding off Sarangkot, one of the longest ziplines in the world, and the World Peace Pagoda on the ridge above the water. Singh Tour Service can add Pokhara to any Nepal package with hotels on the lakeside strip and the same vehicle and driver staying with you throughout.
